A balloon, brightly lit

by the setting sun

rises high in the sky,

moving quickly with the breeze.

I wonder for a brief moment

where it is headed

and if it will find

its place in the balloon heaven

where all lost

balloons must go;

leaving crying children

in their wake.

  1. They have a proboscis (a long tube in their mouth) that acts like a straw. Modern references of Santa coming down the chimney can be traced to the very popular poem The Night Before Christmas, which was written in 1822 by the Clement Moore.
